Drawing From Life

Develop your drawing skills in this concise 6-week course. Through lessons and projects, individual feedback, and group discussions, students will cultivate an understanding of the connection between observation, technique, and artistic expression in drawing. Build confidence in your creative abilities while developing a deeper understanding of art.

Projects + activities:

  • This course offers a unique exploration of fundamental drawing skills and techniques, such as handling drawing materials, drawing from observation, utilizing lines, sketching, proportion, shape, spatial representation, composition, and value.
  • Blind contour drawings/mark-making variation demonstrations.
  • Dimensional drawings/still life.
  • Introduction to figure drawing.
  • Introduction to value drawing.
  • Self-portrait
  • Final project – Combine drawing.

Meet Your Instructor

Jae Ford, Artist

Jae Ford is an interdisciplinary artist who integrates drawing, painting, and sculpture. Their work focuses on the expressive qualities of line and color to both represent and abstract the body, transmuting psychological and emotional complexities of the human experience. They received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA from Pratt Institute.
